Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Songs About Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side only seven months following leading insulting taunts targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a deal joining the second-tier strugglers until January. His lengthy time at Elland Road finished through agreement this past summer.
One of the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead offensive chants about Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the former England international will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to pull his beloved club away from the bottom places.
Past History Involving Bamford & Wilder
The pair had history before Leeds moved up to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends & Looking Ahead
All seems has been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford looking to resurrect his playing days.
The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Wilder stated back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.
“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that’s an integral part of football across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Pat.”
