The Merseyside club Refuses to Abandon Attacking Style Amid Recent Slump, Insists Arne Slot
The Dutch manager has announced that the team leadership are aligned with his perspective regarding the team's slump and he will not abandon their attacking style in pursuit of a solution. The tactician acknowledged that six losses in seven games was not good enough ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
Increasing Scrutiny Throughout Challenging Phase
The manager acknowledged the scrutiny was intense before his rotated squad were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against their Premier League rivals. However, he emphasized that this urgency to stop the losing streak is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or executive leadership following a significant spending of approximately £450 million.
"They say similar things," remarked the Liverpool boss, whose team next week face Los Blancos in the Champions League and play against Pep Guardiola's side in the Premier League.
Player Depth Stays Undoubted
The coach is convinced his team "boast a remarkable roster if they are fully healthy and all ready for the fixture list". He noted that the recent signings in footballers like Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, who is likely to miss out again against Villa through fitness issues, had left the club "in a strong situation for the immediate prospects and the long-term future".
Integration Challenges
When pressed on why his team were taking so long to gel, he answered: "That question isn't constructive. 'Why, why, why?' I provide reasons and people say I'm making justifications. I can list five or six reasons why we are underperforming or losing as much as we do but, as I say every time, there are inadequate reasons to have a run of form as we had now."
- Even if I could come up with multiple factors
- When you are Liverpool you cannot lose
- The reality is six defeats in seven games
Backline Performance
Only the Lancashire club (twenty-one) have faced more big chances from normal situations this season than Slot's team (19). The table-toppers, the North London club, have conceded only two. Yet the manager disputes the defense has been too vulnerable and claims there is no basis to sacrifice his attacking principles for a more pragmatic style after 10 games without a clean sheet.
"In my view we're not conceding a lot of chances so I see no justification to modify our philosophy entirely but we have to enhance in preventing goals," he stated.
Recent Examples
"Against Manchester United, how many opportunities did we allow? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were ahead by two goals, we scarcely gave up a attempt on goal. In every match we played until now we haven't conceded a lot of chances. Absolutely not. We do concede a somewhat more than last season but that is related to us being trailing by a goal so you become more adventurous. But in general I don't feel that our problem is that we concede too many chances. Our challenge is we fail to convert the opportunities we generate."
